Style Icon #1: Daphne Guinness

Daphne Guinness, heiress to the Guinness brewery fortune, ex wife of Greek shipping billionaire Spyros Niarchos, son of the Greek shipping billionaire.

Prominent in the fashion world as a style icon with badger hair (recently dyed black though), journalist, occasional model and actress, producer, perfume maker, etc. But most importently, an avid Haute Couture collector.

She grew up with Surrealist artist Salvador Dali, and was immersed in art since childhood. Her family wore anything they wanted to at any time of the day, so there would be aunties coming down to breakfast in bridal wear. She also loves English Literature, particularly Shakespeare.
In such an environment, Guinness grew to become a fashion icon with unique style, sometimes compared to Lady Gaga. But I disagree. She has a much more elegant and refined style than Lady Gaga. They are similarly brave and individualistic, but otherwise, they are stylistically different. She breaks rules and is always unconventional in her over the top style.

Another thing that I have in common with her is the love of armour , which she incorporates into fashion, like metal gloves, metal corsets, etc. She can be seen on the first row of many fashion shows and is pals with many celebrities, designers and photographers.

She truly is my style icon, because I am deeply inspired by her creativity and freedom when it comes to fashion. I also like the way she sees fashion as an art, and how she shows appreciation by being an active contributor. I aim to be like her, collecting fine art and couture, while always being daring enough to wear anything, no matter what other people say.
At age 42, with 3 children, I have to say, Daphne Guinness is not just a pretty face with rich inheritance. She, is the model woman, who understands the beauty of art and its importance in enriching one's quality of life.
